Happy Chinese New Year to all that are celebrating! We were very lucky to have a guest parent in to teach the class about Chinese New Year. We learnt that this year is the Year of the Sheep. We also found out that the class was born in the Year of the Ox (2009). We got to see some Chinese decorations, which are coloured red and gold, that means good luck. We put some outside our classroom door so the class could be brought some good luck. Chinese New Year is celebrated between 10-15 days, beginning with a large feast on New Years Eve. The class was able to taste some Chinese dumplings! Yum! At midnight they start the begin the firecrackers! They are very loud and go on for a long time in order to scare away the evil spirits. The kids enjoyed learning about a new tradition!

For 100's Day we had some extra fun activities for the kids to celebrate with it was a very busy and fun filled morning gaining a better understanding of the number 100!
What a wonderful Friday afternoon! We were so very lucky to have good weather after the cold spell we had last week. To help finish off our unit on community/ community jobs we decided to visit a grocery store to see what people do. We got to see a lot of different places in the grocery store. We visited the deli, the bakery (where we were lucky enough to get some cookies), seafood section (where we got to see a real lobster!) produce section and the storage area of Sobey's! It was very interesting to see! The kids brought lots of great observations back. Thank you to all of the volunteers. These trips wouldn't be possible without you! A big thank you to Sobey's for showing us around! |
