Since we are studying Canada in social studies, I thought it would be a great idea to integrate our learning into the Arts. We talked about arctic art and Canadian artist Ted Harrison. The students were ask to create bold pieces of art including arctic animals, people, landscapes, and symbols. They started by sketching a horizon line and adding either a sun or a moon in the sky. They were encouraged to use a mix of jagged, curved, and smooth lines as they separated the ground and the sky into many sections. Next, they coloured in their images using bold, bright colours. They were asked to use warm colours for the sky and cool colours for the ground or water.
