We had fun observing what really happens to the candy cane. Ask your child what happened!!
What happens to candy canes when they are placed in different solutions? We came up with some great hypothesis: "It will melt in the hot water" (Alana). "It will change to green in the cold water" (Briar). "It will freeze in the cold water" (Brady). "It will melt the fastest in the hot water" (Matthew). "The clear water will change to white" (Gavin). "It might melt in the vinegar" (Harrison). "It will probably melt in the oil" (Faith). "It will not melt in the cold water" (Isabelle). "It will melt in the cold water" (Jayson).

During outdoor learning, we went into the forest and collected objects from nature that we could use to create an art gallery. In teams of 5 or 6, the children brainstormed and discussed what they wanted to create based on the objects they had collected, such as sticks, rocks, and moss. They then set to work to create their objects’ different components, such as the wings of their plane, the rooms of their house, or the arms and legs of their person. They wrote a label for their creation and then we toured each project to hear all about it. The story of the 3 little pigs is always so much fun. We have been busy orally retelling in proper sequence the story with puppets, and by being actors. We practiced our fine motor skills by writing the 3 types of houses and by gluing the "paille", "bois", et "briques" onto the houses. Some are even demonstrating an interest in writing their own "3 petits cochons" book and used the word wall to find the correct spelling of French words. Please have them practice retelling the story to you at home using their puppets.
November 27th was "pattern day" at Berrigan. The school dressed up in as many different patterns as possible. The students were able to identify the patterns on their clothes that they wore. We also reproduced and extended repeating patterns on Fruit Loop necklaces. Even our morning message was a pattern! In math, we had already started making ABC patterns with cubes, blocks, shapes, straws, and whatever else we could find. Incorporating our spirit day with what we were already learning was terrific!
