This week we started our building centre. Students had the opportunity to build creations using their fine motor skills. We had some students make marble runs, others tried to make structures taller than themselves, and got to experience real tools (wrenches, nuts and bolts) first hand. We saw a lot of cooperation going on, discussions and sharing.

We have had three successful weeks of outdoor education. Some have been cold, some have sunny and hot, but we have not had any rain! The first week we collected outdoor plants and object and put it out at our science centre for more close observation. The second week we had a listening walk, where the children had to listen to the sounds outside. They had to check off the sounds they heard in the neighborhood. The third week we did a Terry Fox walk and scavenger hunt for outdoor objects (dandelions, rocks, and sticks). We had to count and estimate how many of each we collected.
In outdoor learning the students are following directions, connecting new experiences to what they know, listening, and talking to others in a positive manner. In the dramatic play centre, we had a lot of fun making "David's Restaurant"! We had the children create their own menu from grocery flyers and write the menu items underneath. They have been using the cash register to pay for orders, as well as taking orders for others. Students are working on developing their social skills, taking turns, making independent choices, sharing materials and self regulation. They are not only developing personally and socially, but using oral and written language to communicate in the dramatic play.
