With the fall season upon us and our trip to the Pumpkin Patch fast approaching we have been exploring pumpkins. Pumpkins were placed in our sensory bin where students were able to explore them. We had two pumpkins to compare and contrast. An orange pumpkin and a boo pumpkin (white). After exploration we came up with a list of adjectives to describe our pumpkins and counted all of the seeds. There were 416 in the orange pumpkin and 314 in the boo pumpkin. That's a lot of counting! We have opened up various centres to expand on our learning. One of the centres children our able to weigh, and measure both pumpkin seeds and pumpkins, gourds and squash. They have been using measuring tapes, cubes and a scale to describe height, width and weight. Students have also been learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin, for our preparation for the pumpkin patch. Stay tuned for more on going learning... |

We have been very busy learning math in Kindergarten. To start off the year we began with counting acorns. Children were to demonstrate one-one correspondence as well as number recognition in both French and English. More recently we have working on shape recognition. Children are practicing their shapes in French by making the shapes out of playdough. We have also been using are dramatic play centre to explore math. The restaurant allowed children to explore Canadian coins while using the cash register.
This week the students have been busy learning about colours in both French and English. To start off our unit on colours we started off with the poem "Rainbow HaIr". The poem allowed them to discover and learn about rhyming words. After students learnt the poem, they were to create their own painting which was their interpretation of rainbow hair. Then students wrote the colours of the hair in French. During this unit students will be exploring sounds, rhymes and language structure, will learn colours in both French and English, as well as explore tools and materials in art. They will also be exposed to and experiment with different forms of writing. |
